Rising from the plains of Thessaly, the rock pillars of Meteora host a complex of monasteries dating back to the Byzantine period. The experience offers architectural heritage, spiritual history, and impressive landscapes within a well-paced itinerary.
The return journey includes a stop at Thermopylae, the historic battlefield associated with King Leonidas and the Spartan stand of 480 BC.

Meteora Day Trip Itinerary
Early Morning Departure
- Pick-up from your hotel or preferred location
- Scenic drive toward central Greece and the region of Thessaly
Midday: Meteora
- Arrival at Meteora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
- Visit to selected monasteries (from the six currently open to the public), built atop towering rock formations
- Overview of the history of the monastic community, which began in the 10th century and expanded through the 17th century
- Time for photographs and panoramic views of the surrounding landscape
- Opportunity for a short walk along designated natural trails in the area
Afternoon: Thermopylae
- Drive toward Thermopylae
- Stop at the monument of King Leonidas, commemorating the Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC)
- Visit to the Historical Information Center of Thermopylae for context regarding the battle and the geographical changes of the terrain over time
Return
- Return drive to Athens
- Drop-off at your hotel or preferred location
