This full-day private tour combines two defining landmarks of Attica: the historic battlefield of Marathon and the coastal sanctuary of Cape Sounio.

Itinerary
Morning: Marathon
- Pick-up from your cruise terminal or hotel
- Drive to Marathon, the site of the decisive battle of 490 BC between the Athenians and the Persian army
- Visit to the burial mound (Tomb of the 192 Athenians), honoring those who fell in the Battle of Marathon
- Historical overview of the battle and the legend of Pheidippides, whose run to Athens inspired the modern marathon race
- Optional visit to one of the local museums:
- Marathon Run Museum, dedicated to the history of the modern marathon race
- Archaeological Museum of Marathon, featuring exhibits from the Neolithic period through classical antiquity
Midday & Afternoon: Cape Sounio
- Coastal drive toward Cape Sounio
- Arrival at the Temple of Poseidon*, dramatically positioned above the Aegean Sea
- Time to explore the site and admire the Doric columns set against the open horizon
- Reference to historical visitors, including Lord Byron, whose signature remains carved on one of the columns
- Optional seaside lunch at a traditional coastal taverna
